Shovels and Rope

Got a rare opportunity to see some live music with my beautiful wife the other night. If there's any one band I wanted to see live this year it's Shovels and Rope. Sorry Du Keeps, it was awesome.

Wintery Welcome to Spring

Beautiful weather up at the lake this Easter weekend. Busted the DT250 out of it's winter wrapper beside the cabin. Fired up on the third kick. Damn I love that. So we gave her a proper flogging in the melting snow and ice.

Vintage 2 Stroke - check
White Sorels - check
Canadian Tuxedo - check
Bearded Weirdo - check

"Hold my beer, watch this!"

And here's your winter driving tip #472, stay off the front brake on ice and snow.

XTasy

We're moving up. I'm doubling the CC's, doubling the strokes, and hopefully doubling the time in the dirt this year. Gonna be picking up this sweet '79 XT500 4 stroke next week. It's a fresh motor and comres with a parts bike and spare motor (which I'm always game for). Gonna get the lights all working again so I can take it on the highway and get to some new dirt places on the weekends. Gonna be sick fun. The DT250 that has been my steady dirt eddy for the last few years, but will now be parted out to a couple stand up dudes with their own DT desires. A little sad to see it go as a donor bike, but I'm sure the wind in my face and the sand in my butt will ease my pain...in a way.

Feelin the Mann

Totally feelin' this Green Pan on the left.

Bravo Bravo, Powder whore, Slush slut

Yea I don't get on here enough because I am always working on that Bravo something breaks everytime I ride it.
This is how I fixed my hood after running another sled into the back of my bravo which in turn smashed into yet another sled.  The three stooges couldn't make you laugh harder but it did cost me cause that repair lasted all of 5 min in the powder

This is yesterday after work we went to play in the powder up around the nav aid, there is a shit ton of snow up here this year and I really need a bigger sled!!

And this is the damage from today's ride,  gonna get that riveted back together with some extra brackets for support.  Having an absolute blast up here in the powder. I'm thinking it is worth a trip up for those of you who have sleds!!!

I'll try and get on here more often when I gots something good.
Oh  Yea I've been a bit less of a slush slut this is the 3rd time I got stuck in the Grand mothers bay porker rally... Three days of beer vodka and ephedrine will get you into trouble  Finally recovered  just the other day. but man that was fun!!

Changing things up

I'm thinking about changing up the shovel just a bit. Although I love the tower tall sissy stick it's never really matched the low fat dare I say bobbed look of the rest of the bike. The seat, although sweetass to look at is as uncomfortable as sitting on the lap of the pope. So....

From this...

...to this.

Don't worry about that big 'ol bitch stick. It's not gonna go to waste. With plans in the works to hardtail the Panhead frame it will feel quite at home on the raked out rocking horse.

UPDATE:
Yeah. I'm feelin it.

Greasy Artists M/C

Luke McEvoy and the Greasy Artists M/C are putting on a rad day of bikes bbq and films in Spain and then touring the whole show to London later in the year and perhaps New Jersey this summer. This week it's in Spain and Luke asked me to contribute a few flicks for the Keepin' it Greasy festival. Click the link to visit the events page.

Learn New Things

I love to learn new things. I guess that's why when Brian came across these two old South Bend Lathes for a steel of a deal and wanted to know if I was interested I was like, hell yeah! I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm not a machinist, not even close. But 5 years ago I would have never taken on a basket case mutt dog Panhead either and here I am. So with that I've invested in a 1947 South Bend 9" x 4', Workshop Model C, lathe.

These things came with boxes of measuring tools, tooling, and bits and pieces. Sorting through it all is gonna take some time and setting these old girls up isn't gonna happen over night either. But I figure Ive got some time since I have no idea how to use it. Fun Fun Fun.

Shovel luv

Putting some time into the shovel. Rebuilt the oil pump, finally! And I reapplied the tank badges that have never really been straight. Also did a little rewiring just to clean things up a bit. Gotta get her all tickityboo cuz she's currently my only bike. That's a little scary but also awesome.

Taking spring by force

Elliott and I dug the Mule out of about a thousand pounds of snow on the weekend. It took some muscle and ambition to get it freed from it's icy bear cave (four flat tires made sure of that. I let it thaw in the sun for the morning, but couldn't resist a little run to the beer store today just to test'er out.

With no plates, at a time when I should really have been at work, and on my way home from the beer store with a 2-6 of whiskey and a case of beer riding shotgun, it was only natural that someone had to bust me. I'm just glad it was Dirk and not the po po.

Candy paint

I had to match the base color on Brian's vintage tank and it ended up being a candy. A metallic gold base with 4 coats of transparent red over top. And then eggshell clear to finish it off! It was a lot of fun trying to get enough color on the frame tubes.. Keep an eye on the fiftys haze blog to see this project progress..

Joe King is the King

Chances are if you've seen a 3/4 helmet in the past couple years and said, that thing is the sweetest little lid I've ever seen, it was likely a Joe King Speed Shop creation. Paulo has been hand making these lids literally from scratch for a number of years now and pretty much rules the market. No one makes a higher quality head hugging mini lid than Paulo. Today mine showed up in the mail and I AM STOKED. the craftsmanship is incredible. Definitely the most comfortable helmet I've EVER worn. It kinda feels like boobs on your ears. Amazing. Check out more at joeking-speedshop.blogspot.com .
Thanks again Paulo. See you at Born Free.
