Stick in the mud
Went riding in Nisbet the other day. Found some mud. Was riding up along the side when I got smacked by the bush (can see my tracks). The enduro tires didn't have enough to hang on and I went down. Pegs folded up and she was wedged. Had to carry it out by the bars. Must've been some quad to make those tracks. Notice the left signal (the front left matched but was able to bend it back)...came down a hill earlier in a less than upright position.

Slow Ride
Sissybitch and me took advantage of the sunshine yesterday. Cruised the grids and old highways out to Blackstrap. Sun felt good. Not likely to see too many more of those before the white stuff flies. Get'm in while you can boys.

Make your own tools
I didn't have a bottoming tap and I needed one, so on the advise from a knowledgeable farmer I cut off a tapered tap, ground it flat and then used the matching dia to clean the tip.
It worked great.... unfortunately after testing the damn choke the car still won't start if it is cold and there is still gas leaking out of the choke. The heat mass, however, is snug and secure on the choke body. So at least that bit worked even if I did spend 4 hours with no fucking results aside from finding an exhaust leak.

Tight rear
I spent the last couple days rebuilding an original '70 XS1 rear wheel. Polished everything, new shoes, new rubber. Looked so good I gave it to Dale. Dropped almost 2" of height cuz of the shit 130/90 that was on there before. Got a little more fender clearance that I had before, but I love the look of period correct rubber on him.

Solo Ride Cause for Stay of Execution
Impromptu solo ride turned into an impromptu photo shoot with Dale today. While I was bombing around scouting locations and snappin shutters my heart grew heavy at the thought of Dale being picked over by the winter project vultures. I'm gonna need to find some cash, cuz I just can't pull Dale apart like an unwilling black market kidney donor. That's not to say he won't continue to evolve and change. Hell, there may even be an engine swap in his future. But I just can't let him fade away.

Rubber and irons
Hate to admit it, but after a week of local searching I turned to REC for a set of tire irons. 13 bucks and in stock. Can't argue with the right tool for the J-o-b. Man that makes life easier. Got my shinko 240 today too. Nice piece of rubber.
Pulled the 130 shinko off the 16", Billy. She's all yours.

XS750
I can't believe it, she runs! Spent the day dismantling/cleaning/reassembling carbs, arguing with the battery (ended up boosting it with the truck. She really spins over that way!), sorting out leaky petcocks, replacing fuel lines, etc, etc, etc. Runs rough but it has no exhaust or air cleaner. Need to get pod filters as the air box is bigger (and uglier) than my head. Anyway, it sure is nice to have a project actually run. Just need battery, air filters, and exhaust of some type or another. Oh, and by the way, it's for sale.

Optimal Muleage
So yesterday on my way home the whammy breaks (caused by leaking axle seals) actually locked up and would not let go. I dragged a screeching tire half a block before it let go.
Sooo today with a 5 dollar can of brake cleaner I "fixed" the stick. Good lord there was a lotta rubbery grease piled up behind those drums.
I've also coined a new phrase here on the Mule. "Achieving Optimal Muleage". This is done by performing the absolute minimum amount of work and spending the minimum amount of money while consuming the maximum amount of beer possible to keep your Mule on the road. That's it. If it was easy, cost nuthin' caused a hangover and it'll need fixin again in less than a month, you have achieved optimal muleage.

Damn drain plugs.
The new carb float valves and gas cap seal seem to have fixed the problem of fuel draining into the oilpan. This is how I tested it before putting the bike back together. I Thought it would be a good Idea since there didn't seem to be any way to remove the BS34's with out spliting them. It fired up real nice and seems to be running well so I must have done something right.
So now I am on to the mystery of why the kickstart doesn't return after a kick. But.... of course I get stumped by the simplest thing. Those giant frigin Drain plugs on the xs. I don't know why they need two, or why they have to be such enormous 27mm bolts. And why is it everytime I try to remove them, they are so friggin stuck. I can't really figure out a way to hoist the thing up so I can put an impact on them.

Regress x 2
So The MG runs great when the engine is warm. But as I found out this afternoon. It won't run at all if you don't let it warm up first. I guess that is a bit of a chicken and the egg thing. Any suggestions on how to get the engine warmed up with out actually running it?

Regress
Found a new tranny mount in town for the Saginaw. The Mule went back up on blocks for the one man procedure and I had'er wrappen up in about a 1/2 hour. This rubber shockmounted piece keeps the tranny backend from skooting back and forth, forward and back. When they're worn out like this...
they don't work so good. Put the new one in and WOW....no difference. The thing still shakes, jerks and jolts. I guess he's just proud to be a Mule.
Price of mount $7.23 + GsT (gotTA Love a MuLE)

Progress
Adjusted the timing today and the knocking has pretty much dissapeared. The MG is running smoother and accelerates nicely so I am stoked. Still have cold start issues and running on problems but at least there has been a change for the better!

Snappin Pix
So I don't know if Dale will survive to two builds I've got in mind for the winter. There may be a lot of scavenged parts coming from him and I think I outta get some lasting memories while he's still around. So who's up for a photo shoot? Bring yer ride and we'll shoot it too. I'm gonna need some crew cuz I got a few locations and some road shots in mind. I need a driver (car), a second camera person (for road shots), gutzy riders and a fluffer. Who's in?

Stone Cold Mule
Found this this morning...
Bad Ass
A couple from Montana were out riding on the range, he with his rifle and she (fortunately) with her camera. Their dogs always followed them, but on this occasion a Mountain Lion decided that he wanted to stalk the dogs (you'll see the dogs in the background watching). Very, very bad decision...
The hunter got off the mule with his rifle and decided to shoot in the air to scare away the lion, but before he could get off a shot the lion charged in and decided he wanted a piece of those dogs. With that, the mule took off and decided he wanted a piece of that lion. That's when all hell broke loose... for the lion.
As the lion approached the dogs the mule snatched him up by the tail and started whirling him around. Banging its head on the ground on every pass. Then he dropped it, stomped on it and held it to the ground by the throat. The mule then got down on his knees and bit the thing all over a couple of dozen times to make sure it was dead, than whipped it into the air again, walked back over to the couple (that were stunned in silence) and stood there ready to continue his ride... as if nothing had just happened.
Fortunately even though the hunter didn't get off a shot, his wife got off these 4...

The cat is still alive here and trying to fight back.
The mule stomped the cat, pinned it to the ground, and bit the neck out several times.
The cat was dead by now. For good measure the mule picked up the cat, whipped it into the air and then stomped it again for good measure
