Went for a noon ride today. Turns out raging river = no ferry. (notice I got rid of the football air cleaner?)
Instead I went for a bounce down the Dalmeny highway. There was so much bounce that it blew the straps apart on my saddle bags. Was just ripping along minding my own business when I suddenly started slowing down. It was like I was dragging a sled. What the hell? Then I smelled (and saw) smoke! I let off the gas and the bike skidded to a stop on the side of the road. You can't really see it, but the entire other saddle bag is jammed between the tire, the fender, and the front of the swing arm. Now I can't roll the bike forwards or backwards. I had to cut it out a piece at a time. Just glad it was the bag with the bungees and plastic bags, not the other one with all the tools in it!

Stop It!
Bought a new drum for the original Antiquated Mule as the sound of metal on metal braking finally got to me. I'd been hammering on the old one long enough and cursing loudly enough, for two days, that my neighbor finally took pity on me.
After suggesting that I first back-off the shoes with the adjusting screw I was a cm ahead of where I'd been for the past two days and with some judicious prying and cursing from both Richard and myself we managed to pop it free without damaging too many of the remaining 48 year old parts. But, with springs, retaining rings, levers and links all spilling onto the pavement and rolling every which way, Richard fled a hasty retreat. Who could blame him. But he did return, momentarily, to deliver a few exploded diagrams that he'd quickly printed off the net. Nice to have great neighbors who spent some time around the stocks. Cheers Richard.

brunch
Me and cousin Ollie wowed the crowds pullin wheelies and doing mud slides in the alley behind the Tiny Garage on Sunday. The spectacle was witnessed by awe struck on-lookers both young and old.

Hey, Robin!
I'm calling you out, brother. I've seen a lot of pics of your bike in town this year, man. When are you gonna roll this thing past my place so I can see it up close? Where's the love? Pun, fully intended.

Papa Bear's new springer
Went out for an evening bug smash last night with Papa Bear and his new (to him) Heritage Springer. I dig the old school grips and fish tail pipes (hidden amongst the many tassels!). Pretty comfy ride! Long and low. Goin down the highway it kinda feels like the old Cadillacs and Lincolns, just floatin. Told him he's not allowed to take the Geezer Glide to Jasper in Aug, he has to ride the Springer.

Daniel Benjamin Buxton
This guy and his Bo Diddly box were the only good reason to get to White Ave on a Friday/Saturday night back when I lived in Edmonton. Besides him it was all diesel jean dickheads looking cool for one another and buying the whatever beer came in the most exotic glass. Heard some shit by his last band the Orpheans on CFCR tonight and blew my britches.
unCanadians
Uhhhm. wow. I'm not really sure where to start with this one. I'm not a huge hockey guy despite the national stereotype that all Canadians can skate like the Rocket and score like Gretzky (see the Bruins roster for examples of Canadians who can do these things). That said, I can't say I was unaware of our Canucks standings nor that I wasn't disappointed to hear that they'd lost the Cup. But to wake-up this morning to these assholes pasted on the CBC news feed made me kinda sick.
My first reaction was that Jocks hadn't changed much from when I was in High School and that Drunk Jocks will really never change. But after pulling back from my own generalizations I began to notice the pricks in the pics were far from athletes. They were in fact douche bags. What a bunch of wankers to think that in a modern city like Vancouver they'd be able to go flipping cars, smashing personal property, and looting without getting photographed. What fucking millennium do you live in? I hope all the internet pics help to ID these dip-shits and that they're prosecuted to the full extent of our lax-ass laws. Here's a story and link to a facebook group aimed at IDing those unCanadians responsable for the caos. Go get'em. As for the Bruins fans out there, congratulations on a well deserved, well played season of hockey.

Job well done
Got Lucas all jazzed up last night. Frame did need slight notching on the back bone for clearance on the engine case. Other than that the motor "slipped" right in. Super stoked on the Style the bike has. The 4 degrees of rake made a huge difference in the look.
Happy ridding Lucas keep us all posted on the build and adventures to come.

Went out on a local charity ride today up north. Beautiful day to put on some miles. Had a blast cruising with an eclectic mix of bikes. Here's a couple of the more interesting charaCters.
