Treasure Hunting
The promise:
A guy said he had two XS650's, one 90% complete and the other a roller with engine. We went back and forth a bit and ended up at $300 for the whole package.
The reality:
First thing I noticed when I went into the Shed was the 90% complete bike wasn't a 650. I said, "This one looks like a 400." "Nooo." he says. "Yeah. The 650's always looked like that (pointing to the 650 engine in the corner)." "It's maybe a 750..." he says. "750's were triples, not twins. Doesn't matter for $300 I'll take it all."
The 650 engine looks good. Even came with an engine stand which I've been meaning to build. The frame for the 650 was massacred! The back end had a drop seat attempt done with maybe a stick welder and dynamite? Yikes, but the front loop is in tact so that's all that matters. Also has a smooth front end attached with triples.
Got my '70 XS-1 Drum brake front hub though. SWEET! and an old '70 XS-1 18" to match in the rear. Full stock exhaust for the 400 looks in great shape. Also another box of parts and a really nice set of working carbs for both bikes.
Detail shots to come...

Fall out from Cursed Saturday
On my Side, I've found out that throttle cables for an 84 are not in Rec supply's catalogs and custom cycle has them listed as Discontinued. So I am wondering if any of you mules have ever built a cable. I haven't but would like to know how they get the little ends on so I can just replace the cable on my KLR and use the old cladding.

Lunch Run Sessions 2010 #1
Once we arrived it was time for a little Offroad action with the cruisers.
And after going down a rather steep hill, it was time to go back up. Hill climbs with highway bikes are AWESOME! Although to be honest this one was not a great challenge.
Proud enough with our accomplishments it was time for photos.
And fire prevention via moistening soil.

And She Runs!
It was parked in fall of 2003 without fuel stabilizer. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I was going to ride it soon again, but then I bought another bike and neglected my poor 500. Needs air filters and the carbs need to be synced, but SHE RUN'S!!!
Sparkle and shine
Douche Bag
So in pursuit of pod filters for my CB 500/550 I thought "Why not check Rec Supply?"
Day 1
Me: Do you have pod filters for a 73 Honda CB500?
DB: You'd have to bring the carb in because they're all different sizes.
Me: Here it is.
DB: Oh. (putzes around looking for a measurer)
DB: (continues to putz around in the back looking for filters)
DB: (gives me 4 filters)
Me: These are the wrong size.
DB: (see step 5...)
Me: They look pretty long to fit in the frame.
DB: They'll fit. Everybody buys these.
Day 2
Me: I bought these filters yesterday and they don't fit.
DB: They are the smallest ones made.
Me: I've seen smaller ones on the internet.
DB: Then you should buy them on the internet.
Me: Could I have my money back then?
DB: The K&N's are bigger.
Me: I'm not asking for K&N's, can I have my money back?
DB: I need you credit card back then............
Just wanted to say thanks Rec Supply for always going the extra mile!
I just bid on some filters on egay that should fit perfect. (Brand new "UNI" filters which Rec Supply can order. They probably even have some in the back)
PS: I went to Custom Cycle looking for an OBSCURE discontinued carb part (for a honda) which they phoned every damned warehouse in N. America and made the guys actually LOOK on the shelves to find one.

The Gods are against a Sat ride
Around 4 I decided I'd earned a ride after putting a window in the shop and starting the insulating. I had massive bail outs from riders that were stoked yesterday, but found one guy who was ready to roll. Busted over to Keno's. He hadn't seen Dale all finished so he rode him around the block a bit. As he pulls in he says. "yer front brake's just for looks, eh?" We took a look and the rare CanAm brake cover had cracked in half. Fucker!
Refusing to accept defeat I say, " I'm good still got the rear drum, let's go". Oops, outta gas. We pull the tank of Shane's XS and drain it into Dale. Good off we go.
Ken's behind me two blocks later as I pull out onto Spadina. I look back...no Ken. After waiting on the side of the road for a minute or two I turn back to find Ken pushing his KLR up the hill back to his garage.
Snapped throttle cable. Welll shiit.
We jumped in a car (not pictured) and got a 8 sack at the LB, pulled all the bikes at Moto Keno's Garage out so he could get the MG out and make some repair room for the other projects. I Ken's got one thing it's project vehicles...and a 919 with over 70,000 MILES on it.
