The left cylinder wall is pretty rusted above where the piston was sitting (which is why if you store your engine for 20 years you store it at Top Dead Centre to avoid this problem).
Good thing I've got that second set'o jugs from Stu when I bought the '74. The piston, remarkably, cleaned up quite nice and might actually be usable. Well no shit. It's aluminum. I doesn't rust, dip-shit. Just gota free the rings.
Gotta research original piston sizes for '77 to see if this things been bore before. But from what I found in the Clymers it's already 1 over at .25 Dunno what Stus jugs are? heheh
The really good news is that the tight seal the rust made guaranteed that the moisture didn't travel into the bottom end which, including the bottom of the piston, was covered in nice 20 year old oil. Which, of course, means the bottom end is likely in perfect shape. whoo-F N-hoo
