Some time around '75 a guy named Kenny Roberts was winning #1 plates for Yamaha in the AMA Flat Tracks on a modified XS650. Me and Keno were talkin' about how sweet it'd be to show up at the ice track with a studded Flat Tracker XS. So here's some pics of Kenny for Keno.
There's a good Kenny Roberts Replica article on
650motorcycles.com from a '93 Cycle World publication
Here too.

Yeah dude! His flat tracker is what all flat trackers aspire to be right? The forefather front runner of the sport? (except perhaps the evil unmentionable modern v-twin brand name species.)
ReplyDeletehehhehheh summa those pics he's runnin a spoolie.
interesting. From what i understand about the form of flat track riding, your rear wheel remains in a "broke traction" state. i hate the word but i'm beer blogging so WTF-drifting your motorcycle. so if your rear wheel is spinning/sliding comfortably beside you (you are riding a yamaha, after all) and you are running a spoolie in the front, that means all you have is a rear brake to a wheel that is...you know, doin its thing! BADASS! What a beautiful thought.
